Setup and configuration¶
This guide describes the recommended path from a completed installation to a working ForensiQ configuration. Follow the steps in order, then use the linked pages for detailed instructions.
Before you begin
Make sure you have a working ForensiQ installation that meets the software and hardware requirements. You also need access to the web interface and a valid licence activation key.
1. Activate the licence¶
Video indexing requires an active licence. Check the licence status and activate the licence from Settings > Licence. Follow the licence activation guide for online or offline activation.
2. Configure users and permissions¶
Create the user groups and users who will operate the system, and assign only the permissions they need - See User management.
3. Prepare the analytics configuration¶
In a distributed deployment, verify that the required Indexers are available. Add additional Indexers using the installation guide.
If face recognition or face finder will be used, create a Face Watchlist and prepare its images before running a search.
4. Add cameras and videos¶
Add live cameras from RTSP or RTMP streams, or upload recorded videos. Organize them in folders and select the Indexer that should process each source. The Videos guide covers supported formats, stream requirements, and both workflows.
Make sure to set the desired indexing parameters while adding each source as they cannot currently be changed after the source has been added.
Time synchronisation
Ensure that cameras, VMS, and ForensiQ have synchronized time using NTP. Correct timestamps are required for reliable indexing and searches.
5. Run a first search¶
Once your videos have been indexed, validate the configuration with Free text search or for more specific use cases, use Advanced Search.
Review detections in Search Results. Save useful searches so that they can be reopened, duplicated, exported, or converted into a live rule.
6. Configure real-time monitoring (optional)¶
For continuous detection on live streams, create a rule in Live analytics. You can first validate the configuration with Advanced Search and then convert it to a live rule. Configure alarm cooldowns and, if needed, connect an external target using the integration guide.
